History of Matrex
Matrex Mold and Tool, Inc. was founded in 1985. We grew over the next ten years to a
size that required management systems and capital investment for continued growth. Patrick
Odette and I purchased Matrex in 1995 and installed these systems with the help of our
employees. Each year we are adding additional services for our
customers.
Our automation includes additions of
mass production management techniques, cnc machining centers, cnc/edm, wire and hole drilling edm,
high speed machining, company wide Windows NT
network and in-house engineering including 3D programming and solids tool design.
We have added many secondary service operations including fixture building,
solid model design support, prototype parts and tools plus sampling and short run
capabilities. Our goal is to give our customers "one stop
shopping".
In 2005 we will continue with our lean manufacturing. We have a project to palletize our steel work pieces. Over the next few years our plan is to automate/automate/automate. We will continue to expand in the Space and Science arena. 2005 is shaping up to be a good year in our industry and we will do what we can to keep our customers competitive.
2006 we are running our palletized work pieces with great success. The addition of a larger sampling press has fit in quite well. We are just finishing 17 molds for one customer which is our largest single order to date.
2007 Preparation is starting for a major upgrade of our shop and accounting software in 2007. Customers are really using our modular systems, prototype capabilities and initial run capacity to speed up their projects. We are now evaluating going down stream even farther and helping our customers through press configurations and processing.
2008 Matrex has branched out to now produce automation, micro molds and MIM Metal Injection Molds. We have added a new self threading fully submerged Charmilles EDM wire machine. One of our areas of emphasis is building tools for the medical industry. Our customer base has gone from regionally to nationwide.
2009 Matrex is continuing to focus on Medical mold and Micro Molds. Late in 2008 we added a very precise Makino S56 high speed hard milling machining center. In addition to the precision hard milling we cut small precise electrodes using this work station. Some of our southern customers are now sending us complete projects which include prototype parts, prototype molds, production molds and we are running production parts.
2010 Our focus this year will be on helping our customers with product development. With our associations and in-house capabilities we are now able to handle complete projects from design through production. We will continue to specialize in medical and micro molds.
2011 Was the first year we really went big into some larger production projects. For a company out of Texas, we produced part runs as large as 600 units. The parts included assemblies that were machined and overmolded, assemblies that were machined and overcast, assemblies that had gluing and assembly operations, parts that were extruded, bent and machined plus a variety on other operations. Our customer came to us and we provided them with completed assemblies using our resources both subcontract and inhouse. Added equipment include a new CNC Lathe and another new highspeed hardmilling center.
2012 We plan to continue providing production runs of precision assemblies in addition to our core plastic injection capabilities. Our focus will continue to be Medical molds, micro molds and high precision components.
